Chores

We have a great call in section for the farm phone this week. We still need you calls about money saving tips on the farm phone, batteries, and mantis tillers at 206-202-GOAT.

This week we look back at 2008 at which me learned and what worked and what didn’t. We cover a lot of ground so it’s a slightly longer podcast, but I think it’s packed full of god information about the garden, animals, preserving and rural life. So please join us for a fun look back.

Moldy Corn

Welcome to this weeks show! While we talk about what to wear in the barn might not seem like the most exciting topic I think it’s pretty important. If you don’t enjoy working out in the barn you won’t be keeping animals for long. In this weeks show:

  • No Frost!?!
  • Farm Phone: 2 calls!! 206-202-GOAT
  • Round Up: Still lots going on
  • Farm Section: What to wear in the barn

Any bets on whether this episode gets published correctly?

Misty goes solo while Andrew is at Podcasters Across Borders.

Topics discussed include:

  • Misty’s work project – finished
  • PodProducer software
  • Subversion version-tracking system
  • The garden
  • Complaining about doing chores all by herself
  • Sweater update
  • Spinning really fine wool
  • Podcast of the week: Burning 20

Also I promised a simple recipe for Swiss chard, so here goes:

Swiss Chard Saute
1 bunch Swiss chard, washed
half an onion, diced
1/4 cup white wine
2 tbsp cider vinegar
2 tbsp olive oil

Separate the leaves and stalks of the Swiss chard. This includes the part of the stalk that goes up into the leaf.

Slice the stalks like you would slice celery. Saute the onions in the oil until transparent, and then add the stalks. Saute until soft.

Add the leaves all at once, pouring the wine and vinegar over them and very quickly putting a lid on the pan. Turn your heat down to low and steam the leaves until good and wilted. Add salt and pepper to taste, and serve.

Well, Misty’s out of town this week so we tried to record another double ender. Except it didn’t work, so you get the audio from my end instead. Which means it sounds like Misty’s in a tin can. This weeks podcast covers:

  • Misty’s travels
  • Internet access on the road and at home
  • How not to move the portable fencing
  • Chores alone
  • Misty’s afghan. It’s done after 1.5 years!
  • Send us feed back! gfl@three-elms.com

I hope everyone enjoys the show. As Dave from Chub Creak pointed out to me, we made the top page of the podcast section at yahoo. I don’t know how long it’ll be up, but check it out. Interestingly enough it hasn’t really changed the download stats. I dunno if that says anything about us and our listeners, or more about yahoo?

I hope everyone has a good week. Next week Misty will be back and we’ll have a more normal podcast, but maybe we’ll have it outside? What did you think?

Misty emailed me this recording this evening. I hope everyone enjoys it, I did.

I’m going to use this post to log info about the chores for the next two weeks.
