Call farm phone! 206-202-GOAT

We haven’t had a listener call in show since barncast 95, and we had 5 great calls into the farm phone, 206-202-GOAT. This week we discuss:

  • Weather, it’s spring?
  • Sustainable living and horses
  • Cheese waxing
  • Lehman’s store
  • Nose to tail eating
  • Fiber and wool
  • Florida, and the spring planting

Misty’s flikr can be found here. And she has some great pictures:

Important!! Barncast 85 is a user call in show, call the farm phone with questions, comments at 206-202-GOAT or else it’ll be a boring show!

This weeks show is done late in the barn, most of the animals are asleep so it’s not the roar cacophony you’re used to. It’s rather long since we spend a long time going over the farm phone calls, so hopefully that will answer your questions that have come up about recent shows. In the show this week:

  • Call the farm phone for show 85!
  • Farm Phone:
  • Coops and point of lay chickens
  • Poults?
  • Dehydrator styles and advantages
  • Round Up: All things normal for FALL!
  • Farm Section: Feta Walk through
  • Feta pictures for the work though.

There is a video extra, and it will be posted latter today. (monday)

Recipe is given in the full post. (click on the more link)

Show 73 is a little windy, oh well it’s summer time podcasting. This weeks show gets to the point pretty quick because we have SIX yes 6 calls to the Farm Phone (206-202-GOAT) and they are all wonderful calls. We liked one call so much it becomes the topic of the farm section, what to do with Swiss Chard. It’s a great plant, easy to grow, easy to cook, and really pretty. Why don’t we see it more?? In the show this week:

    • Farm Phone: 206-202-GOAT
    • Tech details, on how we do the show
    • Turning Sheep out
    • Unfriendly bottle lambs?? Hair sheep?
    • Peg makes cheese! http://peg-woolinmysoup.blogspot.com/
    • Omly is overrun by Swiss Chard
    • Dealing with Bee Stings
  • Round Up, a little slower this week
  • Farm Section: Chard
  • Future Topics page

Finally as promised here is a cheese walk through! The show really ended up in two parts, the Farm Phone/Round Up and the Cheese walk through. For the second bit make sure you have access to a computer to walk through with us. Now some food snobs out there will note that I do a fairly fast recipe and it won’t have a ton of flavour. That’s the best part though, anyone at home can make this recipe! It only takes milk, citric acid (canning aisle) and rennet (pudding/cooking aisle). From start to finish it only takes 30 minutes, what could be better than that for your first introduction to making cheese?? So listen and follow along at:

We haven’t been blown away, yet. That strange noise in the background is the wind. Yes, I mic’ed the window. It’s cold so we stayed inside and did the podcast from the sofa. We wander a bit, but overall for a mid winter cast it came out ok!

    In this weeks show:

    • Thank you to Tom
    • The Weather
    • Farm Phone, Misty’s in trouble with Gabe again. 206-202-GOAT
    • Astronomy
  • Round up! It’s cold!
  • Farm Section: It’s all about cheese. This week it’s just a very light overview, more depth latter
  • Life Section: spinning and sweaters
  • Please leave us a comment or call the Farm Phone: 206-202-GOAT!
