Barncast 80 — Inside a beehive

Filed under: Podcast — andrew at 10:05 pm on Sunday, August 19, 2007

This weeks show is a little different. We’ve had a very long busy weekend and Misty needed a rest so I’m doing the show solo. I really wanted to do a tour of a beehive to show you what was inside but the weather this weekend was not cooperating. You normally want to work on beehives on sunny warm days. It was 75 out, but it had been raining all day so the bees would all be home and probably grumpy. So I suited up all the way and went out anyways and did a sound seeing tour as I walked though a hive. It’s not the most organized, but I think you’ll enjoy the sounds and the tour!

Hey Kes,

I’m glad you enjoyed it. The show was pretty rushed, but I’m glad at least one person liked it. :)

Hello Andrew,

Enjoyed the walk through. I have started looking into starting a hive next year thanks to Geek Farm Life.

Don’t mess with the BBQ. When you talk BBQ in North Carolina it is all about the pig. The style of BBQ is like a discussion about religion or football in the south. Eastern NC BBQ rules, but when we want to have something else we “grill out”. Love the podcast, but it is time to educate the masses. When mentioning NC remember it’s almost like insulting a man’s hunting dog when you criticize the BBQ. Hopefully Misty will recognize the high level insult that will result.

I liked this weeks podcast. I don’t know that much about beehives, so it was pretty interesting. Over the weekend my husband and I were at the Iowa State fair, we enjoyed some honey lemonade. I had never heard of it before, it was really good. Have you ever had any?

That was pretty cool Andrew!

How do you know how much honey to steal and how much to leave? Is there a reason why you don’t take the ‘extra’ after winter instead?

I’m just catching up on this episode. I’ve always thought of getting a beehive, and listening you you go through these experiences has made me want to get one more than ever. I enjoyed this podcast as with all your podcasts. Thanks!
