Misty,
That's ironic! I didn't realize that you were training for the WW Half. I guess I need to listen more closely! :) I'll be running it so I'll let you know how it goes.

Hey Scott! Ltns! I hope everything is going well. Rob's passing is really sad.

I've visited the Okanagon a lot as a kid. It's a great part of BC. If only I could find a job out there. Hmm. :) Also it's one of the fastest growing cities, and in the top 5 for house prices. =)

John G! The peppers were great! I did them in a "stir fry" one night with just peppers and onions and that was great. I used them in the next night in a goulash. Thank you very much, that made up for the total failure of our peppers this year. How's your winter squash doing btw? We have, ahem, a few. :)

Damn :( I just found out about Rob.... What a bummer... I knew him for about 6 years and met him about 4 years ago while I was down visiting my brother in Houston.

As for ice wine.... YUMMY !! I live in ice wine country where the best is made in Kelowna, BC and Yakima, Washington.

Everyone should taste it once in there life time.

Excellent wiki article. As a wine fermenter since the age of 14, enamoured with the Elton John song "Elderberry Wine", where I immediately brewed a batch and have brewed ever since, I "must" say that misty has provided a very good reference to the distinctions between sweet wines and good wines, and why that is important.

For the record, I also brew beer, in the IPA style with high hop content but relatively low (for IPA) alcohol. I much prefer the hops to the alcohol (but enjoy some alcohol nonetheless).

How were the peppers?

Here's an interesting Wiki article about ice wine. It's not your typical dessert wine.

Andrew,

I do not have a low opinion, de facto, of Canadian ice wines. I only have a low opinion of sweet wines. If the Canadian ice wines are sweet, I would be skeptical, but would not dismiss them out of hand (or lips). If they are like the German ice wines, then they can be sweet at the front of the palate but drier at the back, and thus pass the test. In essence, I am very "pro" Canadian anything. When I played hockey, I always used CCM equipment, eh?

Misty,
Congrats on the new ram. Hopefully, the boys will be able to keep each other company when they cannot be with the girls.

Thanks for the commentary John G. Both Misty and I like a variety of wines, it's too bad to hear you have a low opinion of Canadian ice wines. Based on the world wide awards they have won it seems other wine snobs don't hold them in such low regard.

Cheers,

Hi Charles,

That's what I was training for before all these foot issues came up. I keep my health-related blog at http://www.healthnut-wannabe.com and I was keeping track of the training there and at http://www.buckeyeoutdoors.com. I'm really frustrated that it doesn't look like I'll be able to run it now. :(

Misty,
Have you heard about the World Wide Half-Marathon? You may want to check it out at http://www.steverunner.com/halfmarathon.htm. It sounds like fun. I've signed up and I'm going to try and run it even though I'm not up for it. :)
Keep up the good work you too.

Hi JohnG,

Believe me, I'm very familiar with sprain vs strain (twist). Almost every time I "twist" my ankle I do hear that pop. The ligaments on the outside of my ankle are basically incapable of holding everything together. It's a problem that really sucks.

As for fortified wines, I would think we are in agreement.

Anyway, thanks for all your comments!

This is a running commentary on your podcast.

For someone like you in the northern part of Indiana, I would suggest that you plant two tomato plants each week so that you can maximize the early dates of tomatoes. If you have a late frost, then you have few plants at risk. We know that the dates from traditional sources (like the Farmer's Almanac) are not accurate anymore, so we have to be more aggressive in our planting strategies. With global warming, all previous bets are off, so we have to be experimental. Now, that means that we have to keep record and report them.

Congrats on the hive. It seems that the question I posed last week about the work load had an impact on you. For me, the issue isn't honey, but the pollination capability. Yes, the smaller cell size is very important, so you have to double check that to reduce the mite damage.

Just remember that if you have a female sheep that someone wants to buy on credit, don't take an I O ewe.

The recent information on male fertility says that when a human male is over 40 years, the incidence of genetic mutation is very great. I would assume, without other info, that the same is true of other mammals, so I would rather have a ram that is 3 or 4 years old.

Spraining is not like twisting, which is what your commentery sounds like. I sprained my ankle rather severely about 3 months ago and heard a snap in the process. To have a sprain, you should be incapacitated for a while. Otherwise it is a twist.

"Soap" is an oil that "solves" other fats and is partially dissolvable in water. That is what makes tallow superior to other products and why it is used in soap and candles.

OK, so you are wine novices. The most important thing is for you to continue to try different wines. My wife Olga started on sweet fortified wines, but now is on Organic dry wines exclusively. Palates change (thankfully) so you have a chance to redeem yourselves.
